Maintenance & Longevity

We recommend re-staining every 2–3 years to maintain protection and appearance.

Fading or Loss of Color

If your wood looks dull, gray, or “washed out,” the stain has likely broken down from sun exposure. In Texas, strong UV rays can fade stain faster than in milder climates.

Water No Longer Beads on the Surface

A simple test: spray water on the wood.

  • If it beads up, your stain is still protecting it
  • If it soaks in quickly, the protective seal is gone

This is one of the clearest signs it’s time to restain.

Visible Cracking, Splitting, or Warping

When stain wears off, wood loses moisture protection. This can lead to:

  • Cracks or splinters
  • Warping boards
  • Structural weakening over time

Mold, Mildew, or Dark Spots

Discoloration, black spots, or green growth often indicate moisture penetration—something a good stain should prevent.

Uneven Color or Patchy Appearance

If parts of your fence or deck look darker or lighter than others, the stain is wearing unevenly. This often happens in high-sun or high-traffic areas.

Rough or Dry Texture

Run your hand across the wood:

  • If it feels rough, dry, or splintery, the protective oils are gone
  • Freshly stained wood should feel smoother and sealed

It’s Been 2–3 Years (or More)

Even if it “looks okay,” most exterior wood in North Texas should be re-stained every 2–3 years due to heat, sun, and storms.

Pro Tip (Texas-Specific)

In hot, sunny climates like Dallas–Fort Worth, south- and west-facing fences usually wear out faster. These areas may need attention sooner than shaded sections.

Yes—weather is one of the biggest factors in how long your stain will last, especially in North Texas.

  • Sun & UV Exposure
  • Rain & Moisture
  • Heat & Temperature Swings
  • Wind & Dirt
  • Humidity & Mold Growth

Because of these conditions, most fences and decks in North Texas need re-staining every 2–3 years—sometimes sooner in high-exposure areas.

  • Keep surfaces clean
  • Avoid standing water
  • Schedule periodic inspections
  • Avoid sprinklers continuously hitting your structure

Yes. We offer strong warranties, including up to a 3-year limited warranty on stains and longer workmanship warranties on certain projects.

Scheduling & Weather

We recommend booking early, especially during spring when it is peak season in North Texas.

Dry conditions with moderate temperatures are ideal. Rain, wind and temperature can delay projects.

We monitor weather closely and will reschedule if needed to ensure the best results.
